The CSPEDL is appropriate for central office personnel in special education, building level supervisors of special education, and lead teachers/department chairs. The primary goal of the CSPEDL is to better prepare program administrators to support the educational needs of a diverse collection of learners, both directly and indirectly. CERTIFICATE IN SPECIAL EDUCATION Specialized Training in EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION AND CARE FOR REGULAR STUDENTS/CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS     (18 units)

The Early Childhood Education and Care program offers students the essential knowledge and skills to provide high quality childcare and education for children from birth to age 12 in a variety of settings.  There is a need to guide the personnel in early childhood centers, especially when they have low certification and little training. An ECEC curriculum helps to ensure that staff cover important learning areas, adopt a common pedagogical approach and reach for a certain level of quality across age groups.  In addition, it is widely recognized that the aims of the ECEC curriculum must be broad, and contribute to the child’s overall development as well as to later success in school. Furthermore, this is also in compliance with the mandated directives of the Department of Education for Teachers who are handling pre-school students.
