Overview: Recreation Therapy is a process that utilizes participation in recreation to enable people with physical, cognitive, emotional and social limitations to acquire and maintain the skills, knowledge and behaviors that will allow them to enjoy activities and function as independently as possible. Therapeutic recreation will cover Art Therapy and Aquatic Therapy – they will be provided by trained professionals.

Day 1 – ART THERAPY: Express Yourself in Full Color

Objectives: At the end of the seminar workshops, the participants will:

1. Support children Increase self-awareness and self-esteem.;

2. Develop CSN build and develop social skills;

3. Improve the behavior of children with special needs;

4. Resolve or reducing emotional pain;

5. Learn how to increase coping mechanisms;

6. Develop strategies for problem-solving.

Day 2 – AQUA THERAPY: Making Waves

Objectives: At the end of the seminar workshops, the participants will:

1. Learn how to justify aquatic therapy for children with special needs; local case studies will be highlighted during the workshop;

2. Benefit from the fluid and thermal properties of water while providing therapeutic interventions within their scope of practice; 3. Acquire the knowledge about the medical necessity of aquatic therapy — then get in the pool for a 4 hour intensive lab to learn hands-on treatments;

4. Engage in recreation and exercise in the comfort of a controlled water environment conducted by trained therapists.

Overview: Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA), is simply the application of behavioral principles, to everyday situations, that will, over time, increase or decrease targeted behaviors. ABA has been used to help individuals acquire many different skills, such as language skills, self-help skills, and play skills. In addition, these principles can help to decrease maladaptive behaviors such as aggression, self-stimulatory behaviors, and self-injury. ABA is a discipline that employs objective data to drive decision-making about an individual’s program.

Objectives: At the end of the three (3) day seminar-workshops, the participants will:

1. Reduce the repetitive behaviors common to children with ASD;

2. Reduce frustration in children faced with challenging situations;

3. Replace unwanted behaviors into a more acceptable one;
